Program Review & Annual Planning

Hartnell College implements a Program Planning and Assessment process (PPA) on an annual cycle. Each designated program, service, office, and/or program is required to submit a PPA report that includes an Annual Review and Action Plan. An additional comprehensive review is due at least once every five years.

Whereas the overriding purpose is to ensure that regular assessment leads to the continuous improvement of programs, services, offices, and campuses, integrated planning, budgeting, and resource allocation provides the critical mechanism for prioritizing and providing scarce resources that can assist in fueling improvement.

Program Overview (Year 1)

  • Description of the program
  • Explanation of how the program meets its mission
  • Information on faculty, staff, and departmental resources
  • Information on facilities
  • Summary of equipment
  • Verification of the program's values, effectiveness, and mission
  • Advisory committees (CTE)

Budget Request (Annually)

  • Summary of program activities
    • Past activity summary
    • New activities
  • Needs assessment/budget request
    • Requests for additional funding
    • Current and projected staffing needs
    • Facilities needs
    • Requests must be tied to one or more of the following:
      • learning (SLOs/PLOs),
      • Strategic Plan,
      • other institutional priorities
      • effectiveness and efficiency

  • Chancellor's Office initiatives
  • Accreditation
  • District-wide initiatives
  • Federal and state regulatory requirements

  • Course enrollment, success, and retention
