The DataMart is a comprehensive tool that provides information about students, courses, student services, outcomes, and faculty and staff. It is a good starting point for anyone who wants to learn more about the California Community College system, and to drill down and examine data from specific colleges and districts.
LaunchBoard
LaunchBoard provides data to California community colleges on enrollment, progress,
success and employment outcomes for all community college pathways. The LaunchBoard
includes dashboards and planning tools specific to the Adult Education Program, Strong Workforce Program, K-14 CTE Pathways, and Guided Pathways, as well as a program review tool called the Community College Pipeline.
Perkins IV and Perkins V/Career Technical Education
The Perkins CTE dashboards provides information about the CTE core indicators, including skill attainment, persistence, completion, earned credentials, non-traditional program enrollment, and employment.
The Salary Surfer uses the aggregated earnings of graduates over a multi-year period documenting how much students earned two years and five years after receiving a certificate or degree in certain disciplines. This tool also provides information on which colleges offer programs in those specific disciplines and videos about these programs.
Student-Centered Funding Formula Dashboards
The SCFF dashboards allow users to compare their funding based on the SCFF to the prior enrollment-based funding formula, and view an analysis of counts and patterns across the SCFF metrics. The SCFF Resource Estimator requires a unique login, which is typically assigned to the Chief Business Officer at the district.
The Student Success Metrics dashboard allows users to examine data based on students’ educational goals, such as adult education, short-term career education, and degree/transfer. The metrics in this dashboard capture progression along students’ educational journey from recruitment to completion, transfer, and the workforce. Data can be viewed statewide, or disaggregated by macroregion, microregion, district, or college.
Transfer-Level Gateway Completion Dashboard
The Transfer-Level Gateway Completion dashboard provides statewide and college-specific completion rates of transfer-level English, mathematics (or equivalent quantitative reasoning course), and credit ESL starting from students’ first-course enrollment in the discipline.
The CTE Employment Outcomes Survey is a statewide study to assess employment outcomes of students who have participated in career technical education coursework at California Community Colleges. Data tables and visualizations allow the public to access survey results.
The Data Element Dictionary provides a description of the System Office Management Information System (MIS) and the technical specifications for the data to be collected and reported to the state. Appendices provide codes and additional reference information.
The RP Group partners with the CCCCO to engage in research, planning, and policy recommendations regarding community college student success and equity. Their website contains numerous research reports on topics such as guided pathways, gateway math and English placement and completion, dual enrollment, and transfer outcomes for disproportionately impacted student populations.
Intersegmental Data:
Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) (US Department of Education)
IPEDS reports enrollments, program completions, graduation rates, faculty and staff data, finances, and student financial aid data from every college, university, and technical and vocational institution that participates in the federal student financial aid programs. IPEDS data is useful for completing federal grant applications and reports, and is also helpful in comparing our institution to others with similar characteristics.
National Student Clearinghouse/Postsecondary Data Partnership (PDP)
As part of our status as an Achieving the Dream Network College, the PDP provides a series of cohort-based dashboards focused on student access, momentum, and mobility. The PDP also provides benchmarking data for comparisons with other institutions, analysis-ready files for more granular analysis, and national benchmarking reports.
K-12 Data:
Ed-Data (California Department of Education)
Ed-Data provides data on K-12 students by county, district, and school site.
DataQuest is a tool developed by the California Department of Education that provides information about K-12 enrollments, graduation rates, absenteeism, suspension and expulsion rates, and college-going rates. It also provides information about special populations, including English language learners (ELLs), special education, and foster youth, and includes teacher staffing rates and class sizes. DataQuest can be used to help predict future first time in college (FTIC) enrollments, based on college-going rates and sizes of graduating classes.
This dashboard, created by the California State University system, can be used to determine how many students from Hartnell College successfully transferred to a CSU campus. Data can be disaggregated by student demographics, enrollment by campus, counties/districts where students are from, transfer pathways, and discipline/program area.
UC Admissions by Source School
This dashboard, created by the University of California system, is useful in determining how many students from Hartnell College successfully transferred to a UC campus.
Population Data:
US Census Bureau. The US Census Bureau website is a good source of information for local population data. Their QuickFacts page allows users to view population data by state, county, city, town, or zip code. They also compile data tables focused on educational attainment.
Labor Market Data:
Employment Development Department (EDD) Labor Market Information. The LMI dashboards provide statistical data and reports on California's labor force, industries, occupations, employment projections, wages, and other important labor market and economic data.
American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges. Their research page contains numerous reports focusing on issues relevant to community colleges.
Community College Research Center (CCRC)
The CCRC is a research organization affiliated with Teachers College, Columbia University. Their website contains numerous reports, presentations, and workshops pertaining to community college student success, equity, and Guided Pathways.
Wheelhouse: The Center for Community College Leadership and Research
Wheelhouse, affiliated with UC Davis, conducts, translates, and disseminates third-party research to inform practice and policy development for Community College leaders and state and local policymakers. Recent reports have focused on pandemic enrollment, student parents, and dual enrollment trends.
