Hartnell College offers a series of English for Multilingual Speakers courses that lead up to college level English (1A or 1AX).
These courses are mirrored, meaning they are in the same classroom, with the same instructor, they use the same course material and have the same educational experience. Students need to choose the appropriate level and decide whether to take the course as credit or noncredit. Students can choose the best option based on their personal, educational and/or career goal.
Credit Courses
Courses that are credited are numbered 120 to 162
Grades: A, B, C, D or F
Classes are 16 weeks
Beginning level to advanced level
Cost per unit is $46.00
Student fee is $12.00
Can apply for financial aid
Students earn credits/units
Proof of residency and social security number are not required
Not repeatable if students earn a grade of C or better
Noncredit Courses
Courses that are credited are numbered 620 to 662
Grades: pass/no pass
Classes are 16 weeks
Beginning level to advanced level
They are tuition-free
Student fee is $12.00
Does not affect financial aid
Students do not earn credits/units
Proof of residency and social security number are not required
Can be repeated up to three times
