What to do in case of Fire- Immediate Actions:

Smell Smoke or Detect a Fire:

  1. Prior to opening doors, feel if the door is HOT. Open cautiously.
  2. If SMOKY, stay near the floor where less smoke accumulates.
  3. Pull fire alarm.
  4. Evacuate from the area to the designated assembly area. Assist person with disabilities and children.
  5. Alert  classes, students and employees nearby.
  6. Call 8-9-1-1 from campus phones or 831-758-7321 from cell phones and describe location, nature and extent/size of fire. Be sure to mention if there are any known or suspected persons trapped inside the fire area or if hazardous materials are involved.

Fire is Minor and Controllable:

  1. Direct fire extinguisher(s) toward base of flames
  2. Evacuate immediate area if appropriate
  3. Notify facilities x6950
  4. If there is any chance that this fire will reignite or if hazardous materials were involved, call 8-9-1-1 from campus phones or 831-758-7321 from cell phones and describe location, nature and extent/size of fire.

Fire Out of Control:

  1. Immediately evacuate, as above
  2. Close all possible doors to confine the fire but DO NOT LOCK
  3. Pull fire alarm
  4. Call 8-9-1-1 from campus phone or 831-758-7321 from cell phones and describe location, nature and extent/size of fire. Be sure to mention if there are any known or suspected persons trapped inside the fire area or if hazardous materials are involved.
