English Flier No Assessment
Spanish ESL Flier

Taking the right English, English as a Second Language, and, or math class is very important to save you time and money. This is one of the most important first steps to make sure you are successful in your college career and meet your goals. We believe all students should have the opportunity to begin in transfer-level coursework, regardless of past school or previous assessment experiences!

Hartnell College no longer uses assessment testing (formerly known as STAAR, or Accuplacer) for placement into English, Math, or English as Second Language (ESL) courses. We have adjusted our process for all incoming students, and you are now eligible to enroll in transfer-level English, Math, or ESL courses, in line with the requirements of Assembly Bill 705 (AB 705), which took effect on Jan. 1, 2018.
