Hartnell College no longer uses assessment testing (formerly known as STAAR, or Accuplacer) for placement into English, Math, or English as Second Language (ESL) courses. We have adjusted our process for all incoming students, and you are now eligible to enroll in transfer-level English, Math, or ESL courses, in line with the requirements of Assembly Bill 705 (AB 705), which took effect on Jan. 1, 2018.

For Assistance in determining the correct transfer-level Math and English course for your major please click on the Online Express Counseling link for Counseling support for placement.  Due to a recent cyberissue our online placement tool for English and Math is currently unavailable.
