Year-Long Registration, Common Course Numbering and Summer Momentum Program
We are excited to announce that starting this registration period, all students will now have the option to register for summer, fall, and spring terms all at once! This will allow students to plan their academic year more efficiently, secure preferred courses, and have greater schedule flexibility.
What this means:
Students can register for summer, fall, and spring semesters as soon as the assigned
enrollment date starts.
All students are eligible to register for the full year at the same time, rather than
registering separately for each semester.
This change is designed to help students plan ahead and better manage course load
throughout the year.
Students are encouraged to review their education plan and course availability for the upcoming terms before assigned enrollment date. Open enrollment starts May 6, 2025.
As always, students should be mindful of any prerequisites, course availability, and registration deadlines.
Common Course Numbering
Starting in Fall 2025, Hartnell College will begin transitioning to new Common Course Numbering (CCN) as part of a statewide effort to make transferring easier across California Community Colleges (CCCs).
Additionally, CCN aims to:
Reduce unnecessary credit accumulation for students
Make all transfer-eligible course numbering, descriptions, and abbreviations the same
across all California Community Colleges
Allow students to easily identify transfer-eligible courses to four-year institutions
CCN updates will occur over three years and be in three phases. Phase one will update
course numbers, titles, and subject abbreviations for seven transfer-eligible courses
at Hartnell College.
The following course numbering changes will take effect in Fall 2025:
ENG 1A (College Composition and Reading) will become ENGL C1000 (Academic Reading
& Writing)
ENG 1AX (Intensive College Composition) will become ENGL C1000E (Academic Reading
& Writing)
ENG 2 (Critical Thinking & Writing) will become ENGL C1001 (Critical Thinking & Writing)
COM 1 (Introduction to Public Speaking) will become COMM C1000 (Introduction to Public
Speaking)
MAT 13 (Elementary Statistics) will become STAT C1000 (Introduction to Statistics)
POL 1 (American Political Institutions) will become POLS C1000 (American Government
& Politics)
PSY 2 (General Psychology) will become PSYC C1000 (Introduction to Psychology)
All course updates will be reflected in the college catalog, schedule, and other publications.
Rest assured, Hartnell College faculty and staff are here to support you with anything you need to stay on track with your education plan.
