SALINAS, CA. (April 11, 2023) — On April 17, 2023, Hartnell College will host its annual Career and Job Fair in conjunction with a health fair at the main campus in Salinas. Students, job seekers, and the general public can meet with employers for jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities, meanwhile learning about available health resources in Monterey County.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 17, at the Central Plaza at Hartnell College, 411 Central Avenue, in Salinas. The event is free and open to the public. More than 150 agencies/resources will be available for attendees.

This is the first year that Hartnell has combined the career and job fair with the college’s annual health fair, both of which were huge successes last year. The event allows those in attendance to connect with local health organizations and their resources, employers throughout Monterey County, and educators to learn more about the job search process and the available mentorship, internship, volunteer, part‐time, and full‐time opportunities.

This year, the Career and Job Fair portion of the event will highlight and recognize public health as an area of study and career choice and its ongoing effort to be leaders in preventative care for a healthier community for everyone, all while also promoting jobs in diverse disciplines, including administration of justice, agriculture, business administration, and social and behavioral sciences. 2022 Health Fair

“The health and career fair will be our second main event to highlight the Meta Major: Health Sciences, and will raise awareness for National Public Health Week,” said Belinda Saechao-Jimmeye MPH, Lead Program Coordinator, Nursing and Health Sciences at Hartnell. “It was so inspiring and refreshing to see such engagement from the students last year. I’m honored to be a part of what’s ahead.”

Saechao-Jimmeye said the fair also addresses the unmet need for health education and prevention for Hartnell students and among underserved communities in the county. “It’ll provoke curiosity and exploration to a wide variety of public health career pathways and the community health resources available,” she said. “Students can learn about different health programs to help guide them in what prerequisites and experiences they need to prepare for a future in the health field and beyond.”

Some of the organizations, agencies, and municipalities participating in the fair include Alliance on Aging, American Medical Response Monterey, Aspire Health, California Highway Patrol, CASA of Monterey County, Central Coast VNA and Hospice, Food Bank for Monterey County, Gateway Center of Monterey County Inc., Girls Inc. of the Central Coast, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Salinas Fire and Police Departments, and local and regional hospitals.
