Welcome to Social and Behavioral Sciences at Hartnell College!

The Social and Behavioral Sciences present instruction in Anthropology, Early Elementary Teacher Education, Ethnic Studies, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Pathway to Law School, Psychology, and Sociology.

Students study human society from a variety of perspectives as instructors seek to present knowledge, an appreciation of the cultures of the world and how to organize, asses and explain information. Its faculty presents discipline studies in a multicultural focus that values student diversity and the increasingly diverse world in which we exist. 

With a disciplined reflection on human condition and a sensitive and critical inquiry into all aspects of human society, the division seeks to develop student ability to define and communicate emotion and intellectual responses on the human condition. The ultimate goal is to enrich student knowledge and to develop student ability to articulate their thoughts with clarity and imagination, thereby preparing students for productive, culturally rich lives as informed and participating citizens. by preparing students for productive, culturally rich lives as informed and participating citizens.
