Improving Access to 21st Century Job Training and Transfer to Four Year Universities

Hartnell College must upgrade and expand classrooms, labs and facilities on the Main Campus in Salinas, at the Alisal Campus in East Salinas, in South Monterey County, and in North Monterey County. That’s why the Hartnell College Board of Trustees placed a $167 million local bond measure on the November 2016 ballot, and thanks to the support of the community, it passed.

By improving access to higher education, Hartnell College can help the people of the Salinas Valley earn associate degrees, certificates, and four-year degrees to obtain better paying jobs. It is important to improve access to affordable community college, job training programs, and quality college facilities in our area because only 60% of Salinas Valley residents over the age of 25 have earned a high school diploma and only 5% - 7% of the District’s Latino population has attained a four-year degree or higher.

MEASURE T STATUS UPDATES will be posted below or on the Design Teams and Architects/ Construction Updates and Contractor's pages, as projects progress  and develop.  The monthly status report to the Hartnell CCD Board will be posted below.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

12/6/19:
Good afternoon Campus Community:
As the rain has decided to be more moderate than the deluge experienced over the Thanksgiving holiday, the activity will pick up again in the courtyard area (Quad) the week of the 9th.  This work will be more grading, installation of the remaining storm drain system, and beginning next week forms will be going up for the concrete work.
Inside Building D, 2nd and 3rd floors; work continues with electrical, HVAC and framing of walls - drywall will also start to go up.  More of the same construction noise that has been experienced.

WEEK of DEC 16-20: Demolition of the remaining courtyard and walkways around buildings D and E is scheduled.  Access that week into D and E will be limited to entry into the E building on the east end of the building ONLY. (The entrance adjacent to Homestead). There will be no direct access to Building D or the Bookstore. To get to D building, foot traffic will need to go from the Homestead St. entrance, upstairs to the second floor of E and walk out onto the catwalk across to Building D and then down the stairs to the first floor.  The contractor will have the fencing adjusted so traffic can traverse the catwalk and stairwells.

This will also affect the foot traffic pattern from the remaining Lot 3 parking stalls.  Foot traffic will need to walk on the sidewalk of W. Alisal, to the corner of Homestead, north on Homestead to the E building entrance.  There will NOT be a path of travel from Bldg. G and H in front of the contractors' job trailers during this week (16th through 20th).

Elevator pile installation: Please be aware that the current schedule is for a crane to be set up on January 3. The piles are to arrive on campus January 6 and 7th.  Driving (pounding) of the piles is scheduled for the 8th and 9th of January.  Please look at your calendar now for scheduling on the 8th and 9th of January.  Meetings, interviews, etc. may need to be scheduled later in the day after 3:30 pm or in A or S buildings if possible.
For those of you on campus that did not experience the construction of the STEM building - in simple terms, these are very long cylinders driven or pounded into the earth for foundation support of a building or in this case the elevator system.  It is noisy.

Nursing Project:  The asphalt will be broken up and removed starting Monday the 9th.  The contractor will also continue his mobilization onto the project site.

A big thank you for all the patience and understanding that the community has exhibited during this process.  As always if you have any questions please, send them to myself, Joseph or Martha.
